They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but, unfortunately, for many people it is also the most boring one. The way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day, and if your normal breakfast consists of cereal & milk or toast & butter – well, let’s say it’s not terribly adventurous. Here are three ways to make breakfast more exciting…
Swap that tasteless store-bought cereal for some tasty, organic alternatives. Our two favourites are Roasted Granola with Goji Berries & Ginger and Roasted Muesli with White Chocolate & Quinoa. Seriously – how much better does that sound?! Serve with natural yoghurt and some seasonal fruit, and you’ll start your day with a smile.
If you want to eat breakfast like an Italian, you can’t go past a scalding hot coffee and a cornetto – the Italian take on the French croissant, which is usually smaller, lighter, less buttery and slightly sweet, with an orange-rind glaze brushed on top. If you’ve got some time on the weekends, whip up a crostata: the Italian breakfast tart, which is filled with your choice of fruit jam, such as amarena (sour cherry), albicocca (apricot) or frutti di bosco (wild berry).
Oh, and if you’ve had a bit of a rough night on the weekend and are suffering the consequences in the morning, why not make a quick Caesar – essentially a Bloody Mary but with Clamato juice instead of tomato juice. It’s one of the top-selling cocktails in Canada, so it’s got to be good, right? Or maybe the Canadians just have a lot of hangovers…
Whatever you decide to make for breakfast, remember that it should not only provide you with the nutrients and energy to keep you going throughout the day, but that it should also be enjoyed. After all, life’s too short not to enjoy every meal!
